Professional Skills
Master’s thesis on Pairing-Based Cryptography In my thesis, I constructed an algebraic function called the Weil pairing, which I implemented using Miller’s algorithm in the SAGE mathematics software. Pairing functions work on Elliptic Curve groups and can be used to create efficient digital signatures that are half the length of conventional ECDSA signatures with the same security. I implemented a SAGE program to produce and test these digital signatures. Finally, I investigated specific supersingular curves and how to effectively break the signature system for these classes of elliptic curves. I wrote a Magma script to MOV-reduce the curve group and run Index Calculus to determine the curve group’s logarithm. I measured the time it took this method and Pollard’s Rho method to prove that with a MOV reduction, Index Calculus can effectively calculate the logarithm, in contrast to the direct Pollard’s Rho method.
